North Yorkshire Athletics Network - Mentoring Programme Starts Well

15th May 2012

After the North Yorkshire Athletics Network launched its three mentors, clubs have been requesting club visits by the mentors to support them in bridging the gap in certain disciplines within their clubs.

Throwing events have been a popular request and on the 8th of May, Paul Wilson (NYAN Throws Mentor), visited Richmond and Zetland Harriers to mentor 5 coaches from within the club during a training session which had 20 athletes for coaches to use during their mentoring.

The session covered a lot in the short time available, and allowed all athletes to try shot put and javelin, whilst their coaches gained knowledge on coaching the events. As the visit was so successful, and didn’t allow for all throwing events to be covered, the club are currently arranging a follow up mentoring session with Paul, to enable the coaches to increase their knowledge on all throwing events.

North Yorkshire Athletics Network NYANThe club have highly praised the session, and are looking forward to the next one. Paul is currently organising mentoring sessions with two other clubs in the network over the next couple of months.
